Protection of Minors

As a Catholic institution, the Immaculate Conception Parish School stands with the Church in seeing “in men and women, in every person, the living image of God himself. This image finds, and must always find anew, an even deeper and fuller unfolding of itself in the mystery of Christ…and [the Church] invites all people to recognize in everyone…a brother or sister "for whom Christ died." (Compendium of the Social Doctrine of the Church # 105). This understanding is the basis for our church and school commitment to promote and to defend the human dignity of the members of our local community, striving to provide a safe environment for all individuals entrusted to our care. All members of the community are expected to foster and maintain an appropriate and secure environment for minors. Moreover, all Immaculate Conception parishioners, students, faculty and staff are responsible for understanding and complying with our Policy, which establishes:

  • Standards of conduct guidelines for interacting with minors in parish and school activities and programs.
  • Obligations and procedures for reporting suspicions of abuse or neglect of minors.
  • Training requirements for individuals working in activities and programs with minors.
  • Background screening requirements for individuals working in activities and programs with minors.

In fulfillment of the Policy described, Immaculate Conception Parish School has completed the steps listed below:

Our priests:

  • Father Wellington Oliveira and Father Leonardo Moreira submitted the annual CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information) on August, 2022 and they received from the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston the Protection of Minors - Virtus Training.
  • Father Wellington Oliveira is a certified facilitator of Protecting God's Children - Virtus®
  • Father Wellington Oliveira is certified by a Program of Safeguarding Minors and Vulnerable Persons, offered by Saint Paul's University, Ottawa, Canada

Those working with Minors and Vulnerable:

  • All members of the staff and volunteers received a proper formation before the beginning of our yearly program, called Protecting God's Children - provided by a certified Virtus facilitator
  • All members of the staff and volunteers submitted their CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information). This application is submitted once a year to the Background Screening Office of the Archdiocese of Boston

Formation offered to all minors:

  • All students (K-12) received for three weeks the SEL Virtus program (Empowering God's Children® - Teaching Safety Lessons)
  • All students (K-5) received the KidSmartz training program (KidSmartz is a child safety program that educates families about preventing abduction and empowers minors to practice safer behaviors)
